THE ANT AND THE POPCORN

I'm a janitor by profession. Last night I was at work, vacuuming, when I saw a piece of popcorn moving on the carpet. I shut off the vacuum and got down on my hands and knees to investigate. I found a little, tiny ant carrying this piece of popcorn across the carpet. He was taking it to his nest to share with his family. I was touched. I didn't vacuum him up. I let him be and I let him keep his popcorn. I felt good about it all night long and still today. Small things matter. Small lives matter. When you are kind, you get to feel good about it for a long time. Be kind.

Enjoy your day.

Peace, out.

  1. That was so sweet Duane! My son is like you in that way. He will take the time to scoop up single ants so they aren't harmed. Thanks for sharing this story. I'm an even bigger fan of yours than ever now! :)

  2. That was nothing... The guy in front of him had a large Coke!

Heh heh... I don't bother them either... unless they get into my space (or my popcorn).

    P.S. I like your drawing.

    2. I always like your drawings, Duane... I think some of them would look really good framed. Kind of minimilistic (if that's a word). :)

  3. Hi Duane - I am a social worker in Switzerland. I came across your videos on youtube. You seem like a decent person. I guess there should be more people with good old values like you. Marcel

that was many years ago! nowadays,i still have to go into some of those places and i wanna go back in time!
    ah,i know,i know,there's no going back!
    i'm tinfoilhatter on you tube
just yesterday i caught and released an ant myself, haha
millions of times i've done that, but still, all the dead bugs will never be made up for..all we can do is try,and set a good example from now on!
    good man!

    1. Hey Buddy,
Thanks for stopping by. I completely understand about wanting to go back in time! I'm glad to hear you are a fellow "catch and release" person. About a week ago, a preying mantis showed up on my front screen door. I said hi to him every time I saw him but didn't bother him. After a few days, I started to get worried about him with no food or water. So I picked him up and put him on one of my trees that I had just finished watering. Lots of bugs and water droplets there for him. My wife thinks I'm nuts! LOL

      Have a fantastic day!

    2. hey sir! is it just me,or are there far fewer crickets these days?
i'm in michigan, and there's not only fewer ,if any crickets to be heard (remember how loud and ubiquitous they always were?)
maybe it's just me,i know i have considerable hearing loss,
and i never get an answer, you wouldn't believe how many times i have brought up this subject in public forums, haha
remember how many bugs were always dead on the front of your cars, are there not far fewer nowadays?
i think there's a yuge die-off of many, many species,i'm talking now about insects specifically, and i think there's many many factors contributing to this,
      what do you think?
i am hoping the fukushima thing is wrong, that nukes are a hoax, but that looks awfully similar to naiive, wishful thinking, doesn't it!

    3. Now that you mention it, I haven't heard a cricket in a long time. Maybe they were eaten by other night creatures that honed in on their chirping. Seems like the smart ones would learn to be quiet. Just a thought.

    1. Um, OK. That was different. LOL
Most common Duane nonsense I heard growing up was, "Duane the tub, I'm drowning!"
      LOL *Shaking My Head*
